Candy Corn Cupcakes

This was a direct Pinterest copy (DIY Halloween Treats). I use Wilton food coloring and a Wilton butter-cream frosting recipe. Not quite as cute as the original because I would like to make the colors more vivid next time, but they still turned out pretty cute:

Dark Chocolate Dream Cake

For Nate's 31st birthday, I wanted to make something really special for him. He LOVES chocolate--dark chocolate in particular. So I used this recipe for both the cake and regular frosting: OMG Chocolate Cake. This recipe was really good, I would just add about 1/4 more oil next time because it came out a touch too dry for my taste.

I then used this chocolate frosting recipe for extra decoration (this, by the way, is my typical go-to chocolate frosting recipe): Creamy Chocolate Frosting

Here's the result:

I'm also including pictures of the decorations. Virginia and I worked on some of these crafts during the two weeks leading up to the big day. She has been loving working with glue lately. In these pictures, she's helping to knead the pizza dough.

Pink Roses Birthday Cake

Here's the cake I made for my 35th birthday. Some may think it's strange for me to make my own cake, but I wanted an excuse to practice roses again. I used cream cheese frosting and decorator's butter-cream frosting for the roses.

Elmo Cake for Virginia's 2nd Birthday

We just had a fantastic 2nd Birthday for our Virginia. We did an Elmo/Sesame Street Themed party. And by party, I mean we had our friends, the Lymans, over for cake and a little hang out time. It was just right!
Here's the Elmo cake. I used this Wilton grass tip for the fur: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/461619030525683463/

I made this poster as a fun & inexpensive decoration

1st Birthday Rubber Ducky Cake and Smash Cake

We just held our Virginia's first birthday party today and it was a success! We served pulled pork sandwiches, salad, and potato salad. It was a rubber ducky themed party and we gave away little ducky door prizes from Target's dollar bins (i.e. ducky luggage tags, ducky bath pillow, etc.). The main event(s), however, were the cakes. I made a three layered red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting for the grown ups to eat and a yellow cake with white frosting for Virginia's smash cake.

Here are some pics from the event.

Springy Easter Cupcakes

These easy and something that could be fun to do with kids.

Baby Shower Floral Cupcakes

This one was a project for me. I decided to create mixed-design cupcake platter for my good friend's baby shower. She was having a boy and so I did blue and yellow flowers.

This was my first attempt at Wilton Royal Roses and I have many take-away lessons...the biggest being that practice makes all the difference. I also did leaves for the first time, and those were surprisingly easy.
